ACORNMOON A light brown tabby tom took several cautious steps out of ShadeClan's camp before stopping to sniff at the air. It was the first time he'd left camp since his warrior ceremony. Nervous about going out to hunt all alone, but determined to do well nonetheless, he started to track the scent of a squirrel through the trees.
Acornmoon quietly clawed his way up an oak tree. He could see his prey only a few tail-lengths down the branch he was currently on. It hadn't noticed him somehow, and was chewing on some sort of seed. Knowing that it could notice him at any moment, the warrior suddenly flung himself at the squirrel. It squealed and thrashed as he attacked, causing the cat to lose his balance.
But he wasn't going to give up his prize. Fangs still clamped around the squirrel's neck, the tabby twisted in the air and then hit the ground with a loud thump. Dazed, Acornmoon hardly realized that his prey had gone limp in his jaws. That wasn't how he'd expected his first kill as a warrior to go.

As the only medicine cat of ShadeClan, Emeraldlamb was constantly searching for someone with the potential to be his successor. He wasn't old, no- maybe the age of a pretty young warrior, but he knew that retirement was near for him. However, with the small size of all of the clans, nobody had expressed interest in learning the ways of a healer, and Emerald was growing very frustrated. There was not enough time. He did not have enough time.
Out and about in his scavenging for herbs, Emerald was very alarmed at the disturbance that Acornmoon had caused. Backing quickly away from the pile of thyme that he had uprooted, the tom searched for the assailant, only to find his whiskers twitching in amusement at the realization that it was only a fellow clanmate. But what was he doing? Wrestling? Not with another cat, surely. Maybe a kit? Peering closer, the medicine cat had to swallow a fit of laughter at the matter at hand. It was a squirrel.
"How graceful," he chimed. "I hope you can fight cats better than you can fight squirrels- was that hunting or was that battle training?" he purred.

ACORNMOON This one scrolls too ○ 143 Words The warrior came back to his senses upon realizing that the Clan's medicine cat was standing nearby and staring at him. He dropped the squirrel and sat up a little unsteadily, testing his muscles gingerly. It didn't look like he'd been hurt by the fall; just a little stunned.
Acornmoon shook his head to clear it, and half-flattened his ears nervously when Emeraldlamb spoke. His pelt growing warm with embarrassment, the warrior spoke. "Er... I don't like to fight, actually. It's not that I can't, but most conflicts could be better solved with words instead of with claws." He stood up and began to dig a shallow hole in which to bury his catch.
Having noticed some sort of herb lying nearby, the tabby decided to offer his assistance as he dug. "Are you looking for herbs? I can help, if you want..."

Aaaand the Emerald-suggestiveness begins.
After he had buried his prey and given the speech that the medicine cat wasn't really paying attention to (though he had caught a few words that he had instantly connected to being a lover not a fighter), Emeraldlamb sauntered up to Acornmoon, and being a medicine cat, by instinct he began feeling around the areas that tom could have hurt himself from the fall. Of course, he knew Acorn wasn't hurt- he would have given verbal signs if he was, but it was an excuse to try to give another cat the medical attention that he had been deprived of for moons.
"Nothing's broken," he announced. "You're not too shabby. Not too shabby at all," he pressed, eyeing the warrior before breaking eye contact with him and bounding over to his pile of herbs.
"Sure," he shrugged. "The next on my list is marigold, if you know what that is," he teased, his ears wiggling with amusement.

ACORNMOON scrolling alert ○ 134 Words He had hardly finished patting down the dirt which concealed the squirrel when the medicine cat walked over and started nosing at him. Bewildered, it took Acornmoon several moments to realize that Emeraldlamb was probably looking for injuries. Apart from a tiny scratch on his flank and a few bruises which were still forming, the warrior was completely uninjured.
He quickly looked away. If Acornmoon hadn't known better, he would have sworn that the healer's words had been laced with innuendo. But that couldn't be right; medicine cats weren't really allowed to be romantic. At least, he didn't think they were.
"Uh, marigold. Right. What does it look and smell like?" he questioned. He was pretty sure that he'd heard about marigold before, but hadn't the faintest idea what it might be used for.

Emeraldlamb could hardly contain his amusement at the warrior's bewilderment. His face lit up almost immediately, laughter dancing across his express before finally bursting from his maw that he had tried so hard to pipe down. The medicine cat laughed for a good long while, before glancing at Acornmoon a final time and striding off, motioning for him to follow with his tail.
"They're this way. You'll know them when you see them- small, ridgy little golden flowers. They don't smell particularly wonderful, so I don't recommend sticking your nose straight into them. You do smell much better, though. Lilac, perhaps?" he grinned, looking back over at the tom. He was just teasing, but Emeraldlamb couldn't help himself. It was in his nature. To ease any tension that Acorn may have felt, he briskly switched to a different subject.
"Do you know what marigold is used for? I don't suppose you do- but, you're a lover, not a fighter, right?"
Under his breath, though still audible, Emerald murmured, "Probably a cozy lover, at that."
It's gettin' hot here, so take off all y- *shot*

ACORNMOON no notes ○ 196 Words All of a sudden, Emeraldlamb was laughing. The tabby wasn't sure what he had done to elicit such a reaction. Had it been in response to his awkwardness? Maybe the medicine cat had been acting in an intentionally suggestive manner after all. Had he woken up knowing that ShadeClan's healer was going to start hitting on him, Acornmoon would probably just have stayed in his nest all day.
He was relieved when the older cat finally quieted down and set off in search of marigold. Acorn listened quietly to the description of the herb, which sounded vaguely familiar, and intentionally ignored the comment about lilac as he tried to keep a straight face. They were here to collect herbs, not flirt - at least, he was. It was hard to speak on Emerardlamb's behalf.
"I don't think so," meowed Acornmoon in response to the query. All of a sudden, however, he noticed a flash of yellow up ahead. Trotting over to investigate, the warrior realized that the little golden flowers were precisely what they were searching for.
"Wait, I remember these!" he exclaimed. "When I got a scratch as an apprentice, marigold was applied to my wound."

Emeraldlamb flicked his tail in amusement, and he immediately stepped into the flowerbed, careful not to step on any actual flowers.
"Yes, these are them," he purred. "So you do know a bit about medicine." I wonder what else you know about that you aren't telling me, Emerald thought to himself, before shaking such thoughts away.
"Do you remember how it was applied?" he queried out of blatant curiosity. Maybe this cat was it. Maybe this was his answer. He could be his successor.
"He could be something else, too," Lamby murmured, before pricking his ears, eyes widening. "Oh, wait. Sorry. Was I thinking out loud?" Hah! Show some respect for yourself, you fool! You're a Medicine Cat, not a stud. Get to work.
"Pull at them like so," he demonstrated, though the meddie seemed to be lost in thought. Unsheathing the claws on one paw, he sliced the stem of a marigold off neatly and placed it next to him, repeating this process. It was monotonous, at this point. He had done this so many times.

ACORNMOON and so it begins ○ 249 Words Acornmoon was proud that he'd been able to recall something from his long-ago trip to the medicine den. He gingerly padded after Emeraldlamb into the midst of the golden flowers. The medicine cat was right; they didn't exactly smell wonderful. However, fascinated as he was by the herbs, he proceeded to bend down and take a deep whiff of them. For some reason, the warrior felt that it was important to remember everything he could about these plants.
"Uh... a little bit. It was a long time ago. Aren't the leaves and flowers chewed into a poultice to apply to the wound?" That was pretty much the extent of Acorn's herbal knowledge, aside from the fact that cobwebs were used to stop bleeding. He hadn't spent a lot of time lurking near the medicine cats' den in the past.
His ears twitched when Emerald said something in a low tone before abruptly commenting. "Er... sorry? Who are you talking about?" Confused, the tabby decided to drop the subject. He had more important things to attend to.
After observing how the medicine cat harvested the marigold, he attempted to start collecting some in the same way. It felt... natural, as if this was something that he was meant to do. But that couldn't be right; he was a warrior. Aside from the occasional daydream, Acornmoon had never considered following the path of the medicine cat.
It wasn't long before he had a small pile of neatly-sliced marigold. "Is this enough?"

"Correct," the medicine cat purred. He was getting the hang of it! No, he didn't need to get the hang of it- not a few moments later, Acornmoon had it down to a science. Emeraldlamb glanced over at the pile of herbs, his eyes widening. He hadn't seen former apprentices get it right the first time. Usually the stems were peeling by the time they were through with them, and were worn, most of what the poultice would be made out of smushed out from bull-in-China-shop-behavior.
"That's perfect." he nodded, before gathering the herbs in his jaws. "You don't want to bite down too hard, but carry it lightly. We will need to make several trips by the end of this."
Deciding to test the warrior as perhaps a final confirmation of his own, Emeraldlamb continued, "Let's see.. If an apprentice has a toothache, what do you suggest the medicine cat gave to him?"
(The answer is alder bark. Crap post. Sorry if some of it isn't coherent. Really, really tired. x-x)

ACORNMOON that's okay ○ 110 Words Happy that he had earned the approval of the medicine cat, Acornmoon allowed a tiny smile to wander onto his face. For some reason, Emeraldlamb's praise felt better than that of his former mentor. The warrior found it impossible to explain why.
He nodded and gently grasped a mouthful of marigold. Carefully stepping out of the herb patch, the young tabby was about to head back to camp when he heard the question.
Now where had that come from? "I don't know," Acornmoon meowed around the marigold bundle in surprise. Did Emeraldlamb think that he somehow knew everything just because he'd been able to recall his experience as an apprentice?
